In 2010, Adam Lanza was reported to have issues with increased liver functions. Shortly after being notified, Adam went to a follow-up appointment. Adam told medical staff that he “felt well generally” and was reported to be “well-nourished” and “alert.” Records from this appointment specifically indicate that there was nothing odd about his physical presentation and that he would not make eye contact. He was 5 feet 10 inches and weighed 120 pounds. In the next two years, he would grow 2 inches and lose 8 pounds. At the time of his death, Adam was severely malnourished.
In 2011, there are records that Adam went to the doctor regarding fatigue. An online friend of Adam’s disclosed to the FBI that Adam would sleep for 12 hours or more daily during low points in his mental health. Adam would also sometimes sleep on the floor or sleep without pillows. In the same year, Nancy Lanza had told a friend that Adam was burning himself with a lighter. In the months before the shooting, an employee of a theater Adam frequented noticed that Adam had a large welt on his forearm. Nancy was increasingly worried about how isolated and despondent Adam had become and told a friend less than a week before the shooting, “I don’t know. I’m worried I’m losing him.”
